Former State Senator John Burton Endorses Jane Kim for State Senate

San Francisco, CA – One of the major figures in California politics today announced his support for District 11 State Senate candidate and San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim. John Burton is the current Chairman of the California Democratic Party, the former State Senator for San Francisco, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and a former Assemblymember with more than forty years experience fighting for the Bay Area and California families.

Burton said, “From the days of George Moscone, we have had progressive leaders like Carole Migden, Jackie Speier and so many others in the State Senate fighting for San Francisco – and for the whole state of California. Jane Kim’s background and record advocating for renters, for raising the minimum wage, for improving schools and building more affordable housing strongly qualifies her to follow in this progressive tradition and serve the people of San Francisco and San Mateo – and the entire state of California. Having served our city for almost 40 years in the state legislature and Congress I do not give my endorsement lightly. But after studying all of the issues and candidates, I can unreservedly recommend Jane Kim to be our State Senator.”

“It is an honor to have the support of Senator Burton, who has been one of the most influential and respected progressive voices in California,” said Jane Kim. “Having seen San Francisco and the Bay Area change so much, especially in the last two decades, he knows that we must harness every innovative idea, every proven solution and every bit of our strength as a community to maintain the region we love so much. I will work every single day to address the challenges we face and preserve what makes this district so special.”

Senator Burton joins a growing coalition of community leaders and organizations supporting Jane Kim including California Nurses Association, IBEW Local 1245, the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, the Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, United Educators of San Francisco, Assemblymember Phil Ting, former State Senator Carole Migden, former Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, San Francisco Supervisors John Avalos, David Campos, Norman Yee and Aaron Peskin and Daly City Councilmember Ray Buenaventura.
